Our current Campaign 2022-2023
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle
Ms. Charlene, Ms. Luana & Ms. Josianne
1. An introduction to Our Current Campaign.
Every year, Helen Keller Resource Centre, makes a plan for the EkoSkola programme to educate our students, parents and staff to live a more sustainable life by making sustainable decisions.
The programme for the coming two years will focus on reducing, reusing and recycling our waste. We encourage you to work collaboratively through this journey towards sustainability.
Below are the ideas and initiatives planned for the coming scholastic years.
- Composting
- The school will be starting composting food waste (wormery).
- Recycling
- Each class will be recycling materials as much as possible by using them in crafts and class activities.
- Each class will have a recycling bin to recycle the right materials in the right way.
- We are planning to have talks by WasteServ Malta for staff, students and parents.
- Planting Plants and Herbs
- We are planning to plant herbs and plants (to be sold). This process already started and we encourage you to share the facebook posts to buy plants from Helen Keller.
- If anyone would like to share any seeds or cutting with the school, it would be greatly appreciated.
- Plants and herbs will be planted in recycled containers.
- Make Small Changes.
- Parents, staff and students are encouraged to make small changes in their lifestyle towards a more sustainable environment.
- You can take photos of these changes and send them to the class teacher to participate in a competition that will be held each term. Photos will be uploaded on Facebook.
- Ideas how to make these small changes will be uploaded on the school Facebook page.
- Exclusive discounts from sustainable shops will be provided to the families and friends of Helen Keller Resource Centre.
- Reusable Bottles and Lunchboxes.
- As you all know last year, we installed a water fountain at school. Students and staff can fill their water bottles from school so we encourage you to send a reusable bottle that can be refilled at school instead of plastic bottles.
- Lunch provided from home must be given in reusable lunchboxes avoiding plastic bags, foil, cling film etc..
- Batteries Collection.
- We would like to remind you that the school collects used batteries to be disposed properly.
2. Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle.
Helen Keller Resource Centre each year makes a plan for the EkoSkola programme coordinated by Nature Trust - FEE Malta to educate our students, parents and staff to live a more sustainable life by making sustainable decisions. This year's programme will focus on reducing, reusing and recycling our waste. We encourage you to work collaboratively through this journey towards sustainability.

3. COMPETITION!
Each term the school will be organising a competition and you can win a prize by participating. Make a small change in your life towards a more sustainable future, take a photo of the change you made and send it to the school or class teacher. The photos will be shared on our Facebook page and you will get a chance to win with every change you make. To help you make these changes, we will be uploading some examples on our Facebook page. Staff, parents, students and family members are encouraged to participate.
