European Week for Waste Reduction- 2015

European Week for Waste Reduction logo The European Week for Waste Reduction took place between the 21st and 29th November 2015. This year our Resource Centre decided to support the European Week for Waste Reduction 2015 (EWWR) by promoting it and working on six different actions.

1. Waste Reduction Awareness

For the EWWR, our students daily painted waste reduction slogans on their contact books. The colourful, eye-catching messages are to be seen by their families all year round and thus remind them of our aim in reducing waste!

2. Recycling

Throughout the EWWR, our Resource Centre weighed the amount of waste it recycles. During the EWWR week we weighed our recycle materials and this gave us a better idea of our week's recycling effort's impact on the Environment.

3. Composting

We enforced our composting habits. We created posters and encouraged disposal of adequate waste material in our Centre's Compost Bin by all school members.

4. Keeping Dogs Warm

Our Resource Centre collected unwanted old clothes, towels, sheets, blankets and carpets. These were given to the AAA Sanctuary to use as bedding for dogs.

5. Textile Bags

Students at our Resource Centre helped in creating textile bags to use either at school or home. A number of bags were distributed in the school's local community where the use of lifelong shopping bags were promoted.

6. Waste Management Awareness Event

On Thursday 26th November, our Centre organised an activity for the students' respective families to come and learn more about our school's waste reduction initiatives. During this event, we talked about Waste Reduction methods. Those interested had the opportunity to learn how to create an email address and/or use the email facilities. Our goal is to have more parents joining our school's email list and start receiving circulars via soft copy.
